This time winning the Knock Out Cup at “Sixfields” Northampton Towns Ground.
Rugby Town u17s today rounded off the perfect season, by winning the Northampton Knock out cup final in style. The game was played at "Sixfields" the home of Northampton Town FC.
Rugby fielded a really strong team, one that had recently won the Birmingham FA county cup. The team loved Northampton’s wide pitch, and immediately started playing some great passing football. The first goal came from a Harry Pawsey corner and was headed home by Dale Harris. Pawsey then provided another corner for Mitch Boe to score from this time. Pawsey then provided the perfect pass for what became the Nic Evangelinos show with his first goal of five.
Harris flicked on a ball for Evangelinos to grab a second, and town kept up the relentless pressure on Hayford and they soon gave away a silly penalty. Up steps Evangelinos again with his hat trick, but Nic did not stop there and minutes later Elliot Hull whipped in a terrific cross from a Harris through ball to set Evangelinos up for his forth. Nic then rounded off a crazy half hour, with some individual tricks and flicks forcing the Hayford keeper into a goal bound error. All of this came before half time. HT 8-0 This was as good a half as Rugby have played all season, in any game or competition.
The second half saw five substitutes bought on over a 15 minute period. This did break up the game and with Hayford also making changes the game became very stop, start. The football did not flow as well and the near 80 degree heat certainly played its part in that. But Town then swapped tack ticks and began to use the left wing more, bringing Shame Osborne into the game. Osborne used his strength and speed to his full advantage, and grabbed himself a good goal. The left sided game then brought Elliot Hull more into the game from the centre of the pitch, and Hull then grabbed his own goal by curling one in off the post. Town then rounded the game off with a hard and low shot from the pacey Shaun Smith. 11-0 in the final of any cup is a fantastic achievement by any standard.
The u17s roll of honour this season… Birmingham FA County Cup Winners. Northampton "A" League Champions. Northampton Knock Out Cup Winners. Northampton Plate Champions.
Well done lads 37 games, 37 wins, 22 clean sheets and a massive 244 goals.
