Villa ‘keeper Guzan opens new clubroom at Rugby Town Juniors, Girls & Ladies FC

Brad Guzan, Aston Villa FC and United States goalkeeper, opened Rugby Town JFC’s refurbished clubroom recently (Thursday 19 February). The new facility was built using a £100,000 grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, which provides grants towards developing new or refurbished grassroots football facilities.

Funding from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund has enabled Rugby Town JFC, who currently run 52 teams, to create a new clubroom at their Kilsby Lane home for both players and parents to use before and after matches. The new facility, previously two separate rooms, comprises: kitchen and bar facilities, projector for team briefings and coach education sessions and a lounge area. The club will work closely with the Birmingham FA to deliver a wide range of FA coach education courses at the site.

The club worked in partnership with the Birmingham FA to secure a £100,000 grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund. In addition to the new clubroom the club will also extend the existing car park, purchase new pitch maintenance equipment and create two junior real grass pitches with proper drainage systems.
The Kilsby Lane site, including the large clubhouse and 11 real grass pitches, was originally developed in 2004 with a £951,789 grant from the Football Foundation’s Funding Partners.

The Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund is funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government, via Sport England. It is delivered by the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 13,000 grants worth more than £513m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £730m – over £1.2bn of investment into the grassroots game.
Since 2000 the Football Foundation Funding Partners’ investment has provided 179 grants worth £16m towards grassroots sports projects worth over £41.4m across the whole of Birmingham FA.

By providing more high-quality facilities, coupled with coaching at the appropriate age group, the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund aims to improve the experience for regular players as well as attracting new players to the game.

Many of the new state-of-the-art facilities will serve to strengthen the connection between professional football clubs and their local communities, particularly in the most deprived areas of the country, through the professional clubs’ community trusts’ outreach work.

Brad Guzan commented: “It was an honour to open the excellent new clubroom at Rugby Town JFC. The investment provided by the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, which is delivered by the Football Foundation, has enabled the club to offer a stunning facility for local grassroots players to utilise all-year round.
