RTJFC U17 Colts v Alvis Junior U17 Colts – Sunday 2 December 2018

Coventry & Warwickshire Youth League U17 Division B

RUGBY TOWN U17 COLTS (sponsored by Hi-Speed Services Ltd) 3 – 4 Alvis Junior U17 Colts

Colts were on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller, having created enough chances to win in blustery conditions at Kilsby Lane.

Rugby started well and controlled the game, Darek Kuberka and Luke Newey keeping Alvis defence busy. The midfield of Jake Smith, Henry King, Jacob McCormack, Charlie Trayford, Owen Hammond, and Sam Boazman battled well to produce some good moves but with no final product.

Town were caught on the break and then conceded a second to a well-placed free kick.  Heads didn’t drop and Trayford headed in at the far post from a McCormack cross, before Josh Greenwood saw his shot just clear the bar as Town pressed for an equaliser.

Alvis extended their lead straight after the break before Kuberka pulled a goal back after being fed by Newey. Smith finished a good move to make it 3-4.

Freddie Stephenson, Greenwood, Robert Adams and Matthew Warburton (in goal) dealt well with the visitors’ breakaways as Town increased the pressure and dominated play.

Good passing moves produced several dangerous crosses that just evaded a finishing touch, and despite batting to the end Colts just couldn’t craft an equaliser.

Thanks to Ian Warburton for this week’s match report.
