The Tigers traveled to Milton Keynes on Sunday to play in an extremely well run, very physical 6 a side festival. The first two games didn’t go to plan with the lads more interested in the cheering from the clubhouse every time England scored in the World Cup! This resulted in a draw with Emerson Valley and a loss to a strong side in Flitwick Eagles. With 3 games left another loss or draw would see the lads going home.
Before the next game the lads were asked to just have fun – resulting in a 4-1 victory against Wixam with one goal in particular standing out; everyone touched the ball before Oli Winn rifled home. They then saw off Shenley 2-0 and the last group game against Cambourne was a must win affair again 4-1. The lads were through in second place and had to play the winners of the other group.
After the poor start the lads really turned it round. James in goal was outstanding, Toby and Oli H superb at the back and Henry, Bo, Hudson, Oli W and Kaydon all outstanding in Midfield / Attack running teams ragged. Into the semi against Cleanslate FC and the Tigers played the best I’ve seen them play. We scored early through a Hudson rocket and never looked back, Cleanslate’s heads dropped and the lads were ruthless, goals from Hudson, Oli W, Toby and Bo saw us run out 6-0 winners, a remarkable scoreline.
In the final we faced Flitwick Eagles who had defeated us in the group stage, but the lads were now playing at a different level. They completely dominated the final but just couldn’t find the net! 5 of the lads had great chances but their keeper was in inspired form, and with the help of the woodwork they kept us at bay.
Onto the penalties again.
The Tigers are used to this now and Toby, Hudson, Kaydon and James all netted and when they missed one it was left to Oli Winn to slot home the winner – the lads had done it again – superb – roll on next weekend.
