The SoccerRockz tournament is highly competitive and sees grassroots and academy teams go head to head. The Tigers started by beating Coventry Sporting 6-0, Max, Lewis, Henry, Gabriel and Alex all scoring. A 2-0 (Max 2) victory against RB Coaching followed and the Tigers were getting into their stride. A 1-1 (Max) draw against Arden Forest meant they had to beat Peterborough Academy to progress to the main World Cup competition. Some great team play and passing from Lewis and Henry kept releasing Max who netted a hat trick as the Tigers won 3-1.

The Tigers’ performances throughout were built on a solid defence with Arjan fantastic in goal and Alex and Gabriel taking on the main defensive duties expertly well.

The semi-final against Coventry United started well as Henry thundered in a long range strike, but a couple of defensive errors saw them trail 2-1 into the last minute, however Max was sent clear by Gabriel and equalised. A 2-1 victory on penalties saw Lewis and Max score and the Tigers advance.

The Final against A-Star Ballerz from London was a defensive display at its best, which it needed to be given Ballerz are made up of Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal Academy boys. Henry and Alex were superb in their effort and concentration against quick boys, with both Gabriel and Lewis having to drop deeper and deeper to defend. Max tried to hit Ballerz on the break but chances were limited, with Arjan in goal rarely tested either…Penalties.

Max took over the gloves for the shootout and scored the Tigers first 1-0, then saved. Lewis smashed home his penalty and then Max saved, 2-0. Arjan coolly slotted home for 3-0. Max then saves again and the Tigers win, cue deserved wild celebrations.

A true team performance.
