A beautiful, sunny day greeted both teams at Kilsby Lane for the Tiger’s first cup match of the season. With the Rugby Town Panthers being the Tiger’s opponents, this physical and passionate fixture was an eagerly awaited local derby for both teams. Toby Johnson led the team out as captain and some fantastic passing from Ollie Hughes to Ollie Winn resulted in a quick Hudson Petkovic goal. The Tiger’s kept the pressure on with George Shepherd having two shots saved and a Kaydon Barker volley sailing just wide of the post. The Panthers increased their pressure forcing goalie, James Eagle to make some fantastic saves to protect the Tiger’s lead. A free kick resulted in a second Hudson Petkovic goal and a second for Bo McKenzie had the Tigers leading 3-0 at half time.
The second half started with as much pressure from both teams as the first half had ended before George Shepherd added to his season goal tally with the Tiger’s 4th goal. Vigilant and quick thinking defending from Ollie Hughes and some fantastic saves from James continued to keep the Panthers at bay before Bo scored his second from a rebound. The Panther’s stepped up the pressure and pulled a goal back bringing the score line to 5-1 before a Kaydon cross into the box resulted in Bo scoring for his hat-trick. The Tiger’s played some fantastic football with great passing and communication between the players before George finished the game scoring his second from a corner. Ollie Winn was spectacular and showed his strength and speed in midfield and a solid performance from captain, Toby Johnson. Man of the Match went to Bo McKenzie. Final score 7-1.
